The market isn’t abandoning electrification – it’s diversifying across the entire powertrain spectrum.

The fourth quarter of 2025 brought a stark reality check to the U.S. automotive market. Following the September 30 federal tax credit expiration, battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales and market share declined significantly in Q4, forcing dealers to reckon with slowing inventory turnover and customer hesitation around pure electric vehicles. But this tells only half the story.
Conventional hybrid sales increased 20% year-over-year in Q3, while Toyota’s electrified models crossed 50% of total sales by year-end, with hybrids as the main driver. The reality is clear: while pure BEV adoption faces near-term headwinds, the total share of electrified powertrains – hybrids, plug-in hybrids, extended-range EVs, and battery electrics combined – continues climbing steadily.
Smart dealers aren’t choosing between gas and electric. They’re mastering the entire electrified lineup: Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), Extended-Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs), Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), and even Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs).
The challenge? Most shoppers don’t understand the differences between these technologies. Most dealership websites weren’t built for this complexity – they were built to sell gas cars.
Lectrium specializes in bringing critical, missing technical specifications and adoption-barrier-breaking information directly onto Vehicle Detail Pages (VDPs) in an appealing, digestible format designed specifically for electrified vehicle shoppers.
Lectrium covers every electrified powertrain – from traditional hybrids to the emerging EREV category. The platform integrates seamlessly with major dealer websites (Dealer.com, Dealer Inspire, DealerOn, Dealer eProcess) and CRM systems (VinSolutions, CDK) to deliver VIN-specific data on:
The result? Shoppers get instant answers to their burning questions – “How far can this car go?” “Can I afford this?” “Will this work for my commute?” “Where do I charge?” “How long does charging take?” – without waiting for a sales conversation. And sales teams get educated buyers who are ready to make decisions.
“Dealers are realizing that success in electrification isn’t about choosing between gas and electric—it’s about confidently selling the entire spectrum of electrified powertrains,” said Peter Barba, CEO of Lectrium. “Lectrium was built to give dealers and their customers the clarity they need to navigate HEVs, PHEVs, EREVs, and BEVs with equal confidence. When shoppers understand the differences and see personalized data on range, charging, and incentives, the conversation shifts from confusion to decision.”

Over 400 dealership rooftops across 38 states trust Lectrium to power their electrified vehicle sales, and the engagement metrics speak volumes.

Other dealerships benefiting from Lectrium include indiGO Auto Group in Texas and California, Mark Miller Subaru in Utah, Toyota of Hollywood in Florida, Emich Volkswagen in Colorado, and Premier Auto Group in Connecticut. Across these locations, engagement rates on EV listings range from 35% to 73%, demonstrating the effectiveness of Lectrium’s data-driven tools.
“Lectrium has empowered our dealerships to showcase EV benefits in ways that educate and encourage shoppers to consider EV options,” said Alex Keenan, Corporate Head of Marketing & Strategy at Ewing Automotive Group. “The tools align with OEM priorities and deliver measurable results.”

As Ford announced its next-generation F-150 Lightning EREV with over 700 miles of range, the automotive landscape is expanding beyond simple “gas vs. electric” choices. Here’s what dealers need to know:
Traditional hybrids combine a gasoline engine with a small electric motor and battery charged internally through regenerative braking – no plug required. The electric motor assists at low speeds and during acceleration, improving fuel efficiency without eliminating gas use or enabling extended electric-only driving. While they reduce emissions compared to conventional vehicles, HEVs typically carry higher ownership costs than other electrified options.
PHEVs feature a larger battery that charges from the grid, enabling 20-50 miles of all-electric driving before the gasoline engine activates. For drivers with short daily commutes and charging access, PHEVs can cover most trips on electricity while retaining gas-engine flexibility for longer journeys. PHEVs offer lower ownership costs than traditional hybrids, making them an attractive middle ground.
EREVs are electrically driven vehicles where wheels are powered solely by an electric motor – the gasoline engine exists only as a generator to recharge the battery once depleted, never directly driving the wheels. Unlike PHEVs, EREVs deliver a true BEV driving experience without range anxiety. Ford’s upcoming F-150 Lightning EREV will offer over 700 miles of total range and enhanced towing capacity, signaling a growing manufacturer’s commitment to this technology.
BEVs are fully electric with no gasoline engine and zero tailpipe emissions, relying entirely on the battery and electric motor. Charged from the grid at home or public stations, BEVs offer the lowest operating and maintenance costs over time. With many models now exceeding 250 miles per charge, BEVs provide the simplest, cleanest, and most cost-effective solution for drivers ready for full electrification.
FCEVs generate electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen in a fuel cell, producing only water vapor as a byproduct. Like BEVs, they’re powered entirely by electric motors, but refuel with hydrogen in minutes rather than plugging in to charge. While infrastructure remains limited, FCEVs offer long range and fast refueling for specific use cases.
HEVs prioritize efficiency without requiring charging infrastructure. PHEVs offer flexibility for drivers easing into electrification. EREVs deliver electric driving with built-in backup. BEVs provide the simplest, cleanest solution for drivers ready to go fully electric. The best choice depends on driving habits, charging access, and long-term cost considerations – and Lectrium helps shoppers navigate these decisions.

Despite current market uncertainty, EV sales are forecast to represent nearly 10% of all U.S. purchases in 2025, up from 7.5% in 2024. Electrified powertrains continue to see rapid growth, despite slower growth in the electric-only segment. The dealers winning in this environment aren’t the ones betting on a single technology. They’re the ones equipped to educate shoppers across the full spectrum of electrified options – and that requires specialized tools built for this exact moment.
