What is the cheapest used Tesla for sale?

What is the cheapest used Tesla for sale?

Telsa is undoubtedly the most popular EV maker by volume in the USA. Tesla has over 68% market share for the EV market in the USA, and surely some of these hundreds of thousands of Teslas must be affordable, right? Would they qualify for the $4,000 used EV tax credit?

Let’s take a look at some of the least expensive Teslas for sale on the market, and where to buy cheap used Teslas.

Are there used Teslas for sale that qualify for the $4,000 used EV tax credit?

Used EVs need to meet the below criteria to qualify for the $4,000 credit:

  • Used EVs must be at least two model years old (2021 and earlier)
  • Vehicles must have a battery with at least 7kWh (all Teslas qualify)
  • The vehicle must be sold by a dealer
  • The vehicle cannot already have been used to claim this credit (no worries in 2023!)
  • The vehicle must be less than $25,000. This is the tricky one for used Teslas: can we find any used Teslas for under $25,000?

The Lectrium team has found a handful of Teslas for sale just below the $25,000 mark. These have been listed usually right around the $24,000 mark, likely to pique the interest of shoppers in early 2023 who hope to scoop up a Tesla with the tax credit.

The Tesla Model 3 is the brand's newest cheapest car, but this came out in 2017, while the Model S came out in 2013.

Currently, we are only seeing used Model S Teslas from 2012 - 2014 showing up under the $25,000 range.

The lowest-priced Tesla Model 3 our team could find was in the $29,000 - $31,000 range.

Can I trust a used Tesla from 2013, 2014, or 2015?

This depends on what kinds of warranties, certainties, and tests the vehicle has undergone. As with purchasing any used vehicle, it is important to check things like the number of owners, accident reports, miles, brakes, handling, etc. When checking electric vehicles, it also helps to check the battery and range, as well as how long the vehicle will take to charge and how many kW the onboard charger can accept.

Does an old Tesla have enough range?

A group of Tesla owners started to monitor the degradation of hundreds of Teslas from around the world. It revealed that even after 100,000 miles most of the batteries are still above 90% of their capacity.

If the battery of an old Tesla you found is fine, then its remaining capacity should cover the basic need of the available range.
