New Ford Mustang Mach-E Batteries: Quicker, Less Expensive, and Fully Charged

The older Ford Mustang Mach-E with a 70-kWh Standard Range battery using nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistry had a max charging power of 115 kW. The new Ford Mustang Mach-E with a 72.0-kWh Standard Range battery using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry charges at up to 150 kW. This means faster charging with the new battery, so you charge less and drive more.

Not only do these batteries charge faster, but they're also more cost-effective. The materials used in LFP batteries are more abundant and less expensive than those in other EV batteries. This affordability translates to potential cost savings, which Ford can pass on to the consumers.

One of the standout features of LFP batteries is their ability to be charged to 100% without affecting their lifespan. Traditional lithium-ion batteries are often advised to be charged up to 80% to preserve their longevity. With LFP batteries, drivers get the peace of mind of a full charge without wear and tear.
